why does my cat scratch the cabinet when she is finished eating?

she still has food in her bowl but when she doesnt want to eat anymore she’ll scratch the cabinet. not hard so i makes a mark, gently.

She’s probably trying to bury it. my cat does this all the time. or sometimes it’s the smell of it. He even does it when the dog is eating, he just feels the need to bury it. natural instincts i would guess!

‘I’m done now, you can take it away.’ perhaps! lol!

Well, my cat does that because she knows there are cat treats in that cabinet. She won’t let up until I give her some. If you don’t have treats in yours, then it could be she just likes scratching certain things. Or, if you have food in that cabinet, maybe she is still hungry.

Outrageous. August 20, 2010 at 11:10 pm

My cats do that too for some reason. I’m not really sure why. Does she kind of stretch at the same time as she’s scratching? With mine, I think it may be a “I’m done, time to go play!” pre-game kind of stretch. =o)

It’s instinct. In the wild, cats cover uneaten food so they can come back to it later.

My cat does this and what I figured he was doing was in his head was burying it so no other animals would touch his leftovers..he saving some food for later..instinct I believe..
