I buy multiple copies of books on a fairly regular basis, but I don't usually buy one just to sit on my coffee table, that would be a bit of a waste. If I really like a book and recommend it often I'll usually pick up extra copies if I find them at garage sales or charity shops so that I can give them away to friends, acquaintances and coworkers when I tell them that they have to read it. I'll also buy multiple copies if it's a favourite and there are multiple editions with different illustrators, hence my collection of fairy tales and Alice in Wonderland. The final reason that I'll buy more than one copy is if I have used one copy for a class or major paper, I usually write all over the book that I use for school and I like to have a second copy so that I can do a fresh reading of the book without having to look at what I thought the last time. I've also bought hardcovers to replace dog-eared paperback of my favourite novels. I keep a special bookcase for my absolute favourites and I like the way it looks when it's full of lovely hardcovers, but I'll hang onto the paperbacks until they fall apart from re-reading.

Cheers.

I personally don't. I'm so very very protective of my books but at the same time, after I get over the freshness of the crisp pages, I like them being a bit ratty. Obviously not damaged, but when you pick up the book and you turn the pages and you know they've been turned before - I like that feeling.

But I do know a friend who buys two of everything, books, dvd's and cd's so you're not the only one! :)

Yeah, kinda.
But I like it when my favorite books get a little ratty because it shows how much l love them.
You can still put them on you coffee table...haha.
Then your guests will see them and say "Whoa, she must really love that book!"
And you can be like "Oh, yeah. I was just reading it AGAIN before you got here."
Haha.
