How do i get my 3 month old kitten to stop jumping on the table?

I just got her last saturday and she has a new habit of jumping on our coffee table. it doesnt really bother me but my boyfriend freaks out every time she does it and pushes her off. whats a good way of correcting her WITHOUT yelling at her. i dont want to scare her during her first week with us or i’m afraid she’ll hate me.

Your boyfriend has the right idea. Just keep removing her and telling her no. Works for me!

I have a new kitten and my vet recommended buying a squirt gun to use as discipline anytime she does something I didn’t want her doing. When she jumps up there, just give her a quick squirt, if she is smart, she will learn quickly.

Pick her up every time you catch her doing it and tell her NO loudly and firmly. She will catch on!

i found a good way is to get a spray bottle, of water, and every time she jumps up there, squirt her with the water. cats don’t like water too much, some do (like MINE) and if they are getting sprayed for doing the same thing over and over, they will eventually stop doing it.

good luck, hope this helps!

Get double-sided sticky tape. Place it on sheets of paper along the table. Cats can’t stand anything sticky on their paws.

I use a plant spray mister to spray water on them until they get the idea. Takes about 10 tries for the not too bright ones to catch on.

Yes, keep removing her with a light tap to let her know that is not permitted. If you let her keep it up, she will think it is alright and won’t understand when you try to keep her off later. Do it NOW.

Just move her off immediately.
My in laws let their cats walk and sit all over their kitchen table =| It’s disgusting.

Spray bottle. I have taught my cat not to jump on certain furniture by giving him a little spritz of water. Cats don’t like it and they will eventually learn to not go up there. Just keep the spritz bottle in sight. My cat knows that as soon as I pick it up, he is to jump off. He doesn’t even wait for the water.

I was told to discipline her like her mother would. The mama cat disciplines by picking the baby up and giving a light shake. Its been done by every mother cat. Never shake hard. Pay attention on how lightly you give the shake. You wont hurt the kitty. She wont hate you. Animals are just like kids, they wont hate you. They will give you love and respect back. Human kids we say “No” to. Animals get their message when they get treated by their parent. “No” does get learned eventually but teaching the animal by its own instinct gets the message across more clear and so quicker. Since YOU are the parent of that kitty, do what a mama cat does.

EDIT: the squirt bottle does get them to stop for a while or certain times but it will never completely stop them even when they are adults. Wont stop them if you have butter sitting on the table. They will be more afraid of YOU with that squirt bottle in your hand more than thinking of getting back up on the table. I have tried the squirt bottle way for a while to get my cat to stop putting her claws on the screen door. It works but only temporary and then they run behind the couch or under the bed. Then they are afraid of you. :(

Good luck & peace

Use a spray bottle with water. Make sure that it is clean water and just give it a spray when she jumps up. She wont know just were it is coming from so she wont be mad at you and it wont hurt her at all. Good luck! http://www.petsareus.zlio.com
