I know it sounds weird, but you could also try hairspray. My son wrote on my counter with permanent marker and I got it off with hairspray. It's also good for pen ink too. Good luck! It worked perfectly. I'm not sure what that would do to the finish of a coffee table. Test it on an inconspicuous spot first if you want to give it a try. Good luck.
