Does the Temp. of my CPU affect my computer’s performance?

because it seems when i leave my laptop on for a long time; it starts to freeze up completely (like my music will skip the same half second of audio until the computer unfreezes(usually around 30 seconds)). alot, like even when i’m doing basic processes such as Myspace, and listen to music. But when i first turn it on it seems fine.
Specs:
1.8ghz core 2 duo.
4gb ram
vista 32bit
Average Temp. is 55C-65C

also, I’m thinking about buying a stand/fan for my laptop to cool it off a bit more. any ideas?
Thanks :D

Yes. When your CPU overheats, very bad things happen, from poor performance to a melted CPU.

On a Core 2 Duo, if the temperature exceeds the thermal design spec, the CPU will throttle and reduce speed (trying to lower it’s temperature). If your laptop is overheating, try a few things -

Check the cooling fans for dirt / dust / blockage

If they’re not blocked, ensure that you can hear them running periodically and feel warm air blowing out the vent (wherever it is, it varies from laptop to laptop

Avoid using the laptop on a soft surface like a blanket, couch, bedspread, etc…

hope this helps

Either get one of those stand thingies with fans, or turn it off when your not using it.
